how well would floating pots within the tank work would it go well or not ???
filled with sumthing like perlite or the other the thing thats similar that starts with a v but i cant think of right now???

you are probably thinking of vermiculite. People are doing floating rafts, it has double benefit of shading the tank. You could just put holes in polystyrene with an apple corer and not have any medium at all, ie no net pots required.

yea i thourt so i would tell u all what im up to but no patient yet

fishie, vermiculite in particular and perlite to some lesser degree and reknown for their ability to retain moisture... combined with being placed into the tank I think would result in far too much saturation and root rot...

Both media are best used with "drip" type systems, or as others are trialling here, at least flood and drain

I have tried with floating raft with gravel & filterwool in a shadecloth net. so far I don't rate it. The lettuce is doing very poorly, the strawberries & pumpkins didn't seed. The eggplant did, which was transplanted the other day. But I should try with something better than the gravel with filterwool.

Sorry Fp, took "anyone actualy commercialy do a floating aquaponics basket type system" to mean you were looking at commercial operations...

In fact what you are wondering is does anyone sell an aquaponics kit correct???

No, no company sells backyard aquaponic systems right at this very moment.. But I have been testing a small system for a while now that will be available within the next month or two as a kit system for backyard production. Stay tuned.....
