Thanks for the info gunnagulla that's a fair bit more than I imagined. Would you keep up that concentration after the white spot is gone or just let it get back to freshwAter with time?

Thanks slowboat, they were cheaper than plastic and I think they look pretty cool and hopefully will last as long as I do.

By my reading on Ich, at water temps around 7-8C which I have been having here recently, and no doubt you have too at Kurrajong, you may need to keep that concentration for 4-5 weeks to make sure you eliminate it completely. I'll probably let some rain into the tanks over the next few days if it rains as forecast, which probably wont take me down much below 3ppt, but might exchange some fresh tank water for system water to bring me down to ~2ppt in late July, so I can get some strawberries established.

Carolin, Ich shows as white pimples on the fishes body.... as Gungulla pictured...

The white "spot" on the top of the fin isn't "Ich"....

Regardless... salt treatment to 3ppt for at least 2-3 weeks should resolve both problems...

Transpiration... rain, and/or any top ups... should see the salinity drop over time...

I actually saw more of a white film on the skin but wasn't sure if I was seeing things, however some fish seemed a little sluggish. Will have a better look tomorrow. We lost one to suicide the 1st night but they have fly screen on them now.

How are your trout going now? My 77 ate 80g of pellets today, the first time they have eaten over 1g/fish in a day...although there have been close a few times with 75g :)

We had a cold snap a few days ago and they all but went off their food. Today however I was late in feeding them and they were ferocious. I have no idea how much in weight they are eating, I will weigh my container full tomorrow and let you know. But today was the 1st day they ate more than the one container. They are getting bigger and today I thought I saw a glimmer of pink on their skin as they flipped around like idiots.

Veg growing nicely but not as fast as I had hoped. Made kale chips for the 1st time this week and loved them so much I'm begging for the kale to grow faster.

Have a mad problem with aphids. I've tried squirting off with spray bottle but they are breeding and sap sucking so quickly they have completely deformed some plants. Not sure what to do cause I usually use white oil/soap and cut back watering in a soil garden. None of which I can do now.

Planted lots of rocket mistakenly, thinking it was lettuce (I was curious why the 1st leaves were cruciferous) I don't mind a bit of rocket but I don't love the stuff.

Have never tried it but will definitely give it a go. I'm sold on kale chips, don't know what I will do with myself in summer. Will need to find a substitute.

Cut out the big thick stem ( keep for something else), tear leaves into chip size pieces. Rub with salt and olive oil. When I say rub I mean just enough to coat them. Put them on a tray I top of baking paper and bake at 180 until edges start to go a tiny bit brown then take them out and cool. They taste like pappadams my kids reckon, but whatever they are moorish and so bloody good for you. You could rub spices in too and vary oils used. Some people splash with vinegar to make salt and vinegar. I like kale but I live kale chips!

I tried with continental parsley too today, pretty good :thumbright:

Ammonia .25, nitrites .25, nitrates 25, pH 7.

Approx 90 fish eating 120g pellets per day. Plants growing faster possibly due to increased nitrate, possibly longer sunshine hours.

Life is sweet and all I feel I need now is a bigger system

My pH is slowly decreasing. I was wondering as I have a whole heap of garden lime should I tip a cup or so in every other week so that it can buffer slowly the decrease?

My pleasure Charlie. I offered some to dad and he scoffed. He then tried to give a custard tart to my toddler. She said,'nay', pushed it aside and stuffed a bowlful of kale chips in her mouth. Na na dad :bootyshake:
