I have been using the cheapest from Walmart. Table salt without iodine. Also, I have been using baking soda to neutralize the water, which also includes some salt.

It shouldn't... and I can't see any reason why it would...

Baking Soda is Sodium BiCarbonate.... no chloride ions.. zero, zip, zilch, nada...

And Baking Soda will raise your pH..... (not even the best choice for doing that either)

Yes, I want to raise my PH. Why else I used it for?
One lbs of it, bring my PH from 6.4 to 6.8
I like it at 6.8.

Sorry Zubin... I read your post that you were using Baking soda... in relation to the OP's question about general hardness... and that you were trying to neutralise the hardness..... and that baking soda had "salt" in it....

As I replied... yes it has "Sodium".... and most water softener "salts" are sodium based....

They work on the principle that the Sodium cation replaces the calcium and magnesium cations usually found in high general hardness ("hard") water....

High general hardness water is almost always high pH... so adding a "buffer" didn't make any sense...

Well yes and no Rob... depends on what the water softener is.... as above most are Sodium based "salts"....

But often the products use Sodium Borate.... Borax..... not something that I'd be tipping into my AP system....

Mr Aristaeus-- WTF is your issue with me? :dontknow: I see questions posted all day, EASY ones that they could have found answers on, this one i couldn't, so exactly what is your repeated beef with me dude? did i pee on your cheerios somehow :dontknow: either way your 4 days late complaining so go find someone else to harass because i see your less then a year old here, and not a moderator so I'm sure if i am in the wrong THEY will tell me unless they have recruited you to do what they are unable to, which I doubt :laughing3:
