Hi Faye, temperature is 13 degrees currently. There looks like another 3 fish might follow shortly....

yes!

I was wondering how i was going to add a few trout after the system was cycled without buying another aerator for transport, this may not be an issue by the end of the week :-(

I thought the SP would be hardier for cycling, do they start to die below a certain temp?

I dont think they will die at 13 degrees - they wont eat much though.

At low temps your system will take longer to cycle.

Unless your SP are large I wouldn't add Trout or the Trout will out grow them and then eat them.

hmmm SP are about 20cm now all the runts are dead, I'll be surprised if any of them make it through the cycle at this rate, I only put 10 in

What are your water parameters? pH? Ammonia? Nitrite? Nitrate? At 20cm in size though they are too large for Trout to eat, however they may bully them to death.

You could try to sell your SP to another AP Enthusiast and get some Trout. Not sure what your chances are of picking up any Trout at the moment though - you could try to PM Troutman.

Woke up to 4 dead fish this morning, so 6 remaining. :(

Salted to 3ppt on Sunday (5kg)

Still can see some flashing in the remaining fish, is there anything else I can do?

Water values:

PH - 7.5
Ammonia - 1.0
Nitrite - 0.05

Ammonia creeping up, maybe a slight hint that the nitrite are about to arrive.

Remaining fish seem quite interested in worms for a change

What could have caused this, ammonia?, starvation? rotting food? stress? or something carried from where I got them 2 weeks ago?

here are the water parameters, thinking of doing a water change this weekend....

Did you use any water from your aquarium to get things started (read that in an earlier post)?

The rotting food will definately cause ammonia to be produced. Are you still trying to feed your fish?

Are you pumping 24x7 or on a timer? Is the growbed constant flood or flood and drain?

I think your water paramenters are ok - just needs some time for the system to cycle - its a very new system.

Yep, I did you use some water from indoor tank, which is only a very small tank.

Running a flood and drain 15 mins of every hour. Hadn't fed them for 3 days, they haven't been touching the pellets but take the odd worm or two.

I'll see how they go for the remainder of the week.

Running your pump 24x7 and running your beds as constant flood will help speed up the process.

I wouldn't worry about feeding the fish - perhaps try again this time next week. (I can't remember the last time I feed my fish (Koi) but they are all still alive and larger than they were a couple of months ago)

rest of the fish are hovering at the surface completely unafraid of my presence, and they are covered in a thick white slime. I'll give them 24 hours before I have no fish left....

What else should I do?

More Salt? Antibiotics?

:(

Salt Bath for say 20 mins at 10ppt then return them to the tank.

I would get it cycled without fish if the last few dont make it. Either user Charliecarp, aged urine or just let some fish feed rot in the tank.
