Yep you can cut a small hole and use the space for storage or duck weed but keep the hole small

Hi nat,

I had to join to ask a few questions, because I've found your info very useful. These blue barrel systems look great and the kids will love the fish cutouts too.

I've only just got interested in aquaponics, after just setting up a fish tank for my son, and came across the concept while googling about that.

Where can you buy the barrels from?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before. How is the tank being cycled? I completed a fishless cycle with a frozen prawn on my aquarium. Are you doing the same or using fish to cycle the tank? What is the bacteria bonding too? Is there anything in the tank (ie substrate, filter, ornament type items).

Its is about an inch lower then the top of the clay.
You can use 4 blue barrels if you want the beds to be higher like this

Nat, there was a mention - on one of your systems - concerning a pdf for the cutout to enable the barrels to be used as stands. Have I missed it? The above is what I want, since it is exactly right for my garden, but I prefer to use your idea for stands rather than make up stands.

This is how i got the curve for the stencil to make a stand out of a barrel for a barrel bed.

You can easily draw this up on the barrel itself. Ill post pics of that when i get a chance.

Nat,

I have just made the blue barrel parts and now need to do the plumbing. I have a few questions

How deep is the water in the beds ?
How much does the level go down in the fish barrel when flooding the beds, would it be better to have a greater volume of water in the fish barrel ?

Warrick
