Hello I live in Lake Stevens, Wa

I got my first system up and running (just found out about aquaponics 7 weeks ago) in my garage everything seems to be doing well so far I am raising Tilapia and using my water heater for heat source with a 600 watt HPS bulb for growing so far so good. j

Hey RobD! I'm from Granite Falls. I found this site via my husband and your HuntWA post. I've been enjoying your thread as your system progresses, it's a great learning experience!

This is my first visit to this site so I'll shed a little light on my work. I have a 2200 gallon backyard pond I built. It contains goldfish, Koi, bluegill and catfish. Once the pond was complete I started work on the aquaponic portion. I am using steel gorilla style shelving with plastic bins. The aquaponic portion is still in it's infancy with the first plants being only a week old. I will be adding the second bin and media this weekend.

I posted in this forum because I live just across the river from you Washingtonians and I expect we have much in common. I am very excited to get this project started, and it is time my fish earned their keep. I am very much interested in seeing what you are having success with.

Since my project is quite new I am using one growing bin filled with 50% hydroton and 50% growstones. The hydroton is no longer available so the second bin will have to be 100% Growstones.

After I prove the system this year I may want to expand to larger grow tanks providing I have the room. I know my fish can supply a whole lot more growth inducing excretions than I am currently able to use. There are probably 50 fish in the pond currently ranging in size from 21 inches down to 2 inches.

I will upload a picture or two in the near future.

I have pics but I need to find a way to resize them before I can post them here. I built this pond myself over the past few months. I one thought I would like to have a few emergency fish available should the food supply run low. They have become my babies now but if I can't eat them I can at least put them to work fertilizing my plants.

I should be able to make a new member post this weekend with a pic or two. This will be my first real test of the aquaponics plan. I would make it bigger but the wife wants to be able to see the pond.
