OK....that's it.....the barra are out and Troutman arrives today!! Now for an exciting few months :D
We were pleased overall with the barra, even though we bought them bigger to start with. We harvested the remaining 22 and they ranged between about 500 and 700 grams, and a couple of tiddlers. We obviously caught the biggest last time!

Who was it who said we mostly post at barra and trout harvest times???? :laughing3: :laughing3: Ok, you were right!!!

Very Impressively productive system DandM.

Apologies if I missed it but is the pool water connected to the BYA system?

Thanks....
Slowboat, the swimming pool is not connected to the AP system in any way. It has its own biofilter and eco-pump running 24/7, and we grow floating rafts (celery at the moment) of plants on the pool surface.

Interestingly, this year't trout season hasn't been smooth as in previous years :dontknow:
Over a three or four week period the occasional trout would die, for no apparent reason. All the water conditions were fine, so the only thing we could think that caused it was malabar spinach seeds dropping into the fish tank. Since removing the malabar from nearby, we didn't get those intermittent deaths.....so who knows :?

Then, just when we had time to get complacent again....the ammonia shot up (and we had already been struggling a bit with low pH)....so wham- death and destruction struck!

Fortunately we managed to save quite a few but we lost far too many

Yup, they sure will. Barra have a big mouth and will eat anything that moves.
