Been thinking about this hybrid system.

How about if you put in a trough say 50mm deep
put a line of potting mix pots in it and direct discharge from some GB's into the trough?

It seems to me if you are pumping water like an aquaponics system you don't need to have large tubs with water in them?

The concern might be washing some of the potting mix from the pots... back to the fish tank...

I have a clear FT no dirt there, Ive been monitoring the system everything is normal, as for the pluming that is what I had from my cold chop system "still thanking RupertofOZ for opening my eyes of that usless problematic system"

if there's any dirt I think it will be trapped on the bottom of the tank which can be easy purged with a ball valve

also the pot over my gravel bed seems to be working great

Im digging the idea of using the FT as a water deposit to feed a rain gutter with a float valve that way the gutter water wont be going back to the tank

Yes Rup that could be a problem, and maybe solved with the added complexity of filters and such.
This type of hybrid is not something that's going suit most systems as having the suitable
real estate to accommodate the trough etc is unlikely.

But if the contamination and other issues were solved would there be any advantage
in regard to plant feeding etc using a hybrid. Even if it's for temporary watering of pot plants?

I think it would, the plants are getting premium AP water, thats why the tommy growed insanely big without any fruit fertilizers, I've tried to grow tomatoes here and never got this size and grow that fast
