Ummm, there were apparently an estimated 2 million people turn out in over 400 cities around the world for yesterdays march.
Yet when you type
into google news, you get one article from a small independent newspaper that wrote a story on the event.

Yep... it got zippo coverage in any forms of the media....

Apparently that's because the USA censored most of the news stations from broadcasting it. I've heard the there was one Russian news place that did quite a lot of coverage in the USA. They also censored youtube and google from showing results in the states. Luckily here in South Africa we can still see most things

Seriously, I did not realize that there was going to be a protest until I saw some protesters on an overpass. Not that I watch the news anyways...

I was at the perth march with over 1600 people. It was a great day with guest speakers from the organic food and farming communities.
I was a little worried going there that i would be just marching with hippies, anarchist students and tinfoil hat wearing crazy cat ladies. I was pleasently supprised with the divers cross section of society there. Heaps of families with little kids, older people, sudents that where very respectfull but still passionate, organic farmers and yes the odd dreadlocked hippy type.
There was lots of info shared around and we tryed to educate the public.
GM food actualy does have to be labled in Australia. With a list of exeptions as long as my arm including ;
food sold in resterants hotels.
If its highly refined as in flour or sugar or some oils.
And if it is heat treated like frozen cooked meals.
And if it contains below a certin % GM
I still have a lot to learn on the subject but one of the speakers explained the reasons very well.

Cosumers control the market and will only buy products they want. If given the choice to buy normal food or food clearly labled Derived from Geneticly Modified Organisms who the hell would buy it. So the governments and food standards protect the manufacturers of these products form us! All in the name of unfair competition.
What a a load of BS that is.

My theory on the low level of main media coveage on the march is that commercial tv stations get their money from advertising.
No one producing food products with GM crops in them would want the labeling laws changed. So the media is told not to show the march and its global significance or advertising dollars would be

Melbourne had at least a couple of thousand but suffered a lack - there was no march, just a gathering at the Library. So after a while people would wander off. The couple of thousand was probably continuous across 3 hours but the core that stayed would have been under half that.

Without a march the exposure is limited only to those who go to or past that specific place in town. I doubt the politicians even knew people are pissed about their position on GM labelling.

Yeah - the march in Perth was good exposure - went by a lot of people looking perplexed at what no GMO meant. And also lots of cars honking their horns in support

I think your spot on there. Westfarmers and alike pretty much own peak tv broadcasting times. It drives me nuts at dinner time when Im trying to watch the news.

One of the stupidest commercials that gets right up my nose is that Coles $10 meals with Curtis Stone. What a load of shit. Im lucky to get a head of broccoli for under $10 in kalgoorlie. Surely they dont think people are that stupid.

My main problem with monsanto isn't GMOs per se.
It is the extraordinarily aggressive business structure they seem to have adopted.
The apparent control of government policy they seem to wield.
And the control over farmers they already have and are hell bent on increasing.
The implication being that many of these constraints will be imposed upon individuals further down the track.
It appears Monsanto is a corporate juggernaut without empathy and that the bottom line will be increased through means fair and foul, global monopoly is the objective at the end of the day.
Power and a captive market. And ultimately, I'm afraid of a conscienceless business entity having control of the world's food production.
GMOs are largely a distraction and a sideshow as they are usually discussed.
As dangerous in their own right, etc, etc. This may be true, but it conceals a much more disturbing reality.

the reason close to zero info is circulated on mainstream media about monsanto
is because of the advertising revenue tv stations receive from monsanto companys.........coke, pepsi, cadburys, schwepes, uncle tobys, hungryjacks . carnation, kellogs,heinz, lipton,pringles, procter and gamble, v8 nto name a few. there is an i phoone app that alows you to scan a supermarket item to find its ultimate co owner.

For instance, I scanned natures path cereal, and it told me that they were the single largest donor to the yes on prop 37 GMO food labeling champaign. I knew there was a reason I bought so much of their stuff.
