how many wallets do you need on average for one bed?

Depends on how big the wallets are.. and how big you want the bed to be...

Personally... I've found sleeping on wallets.. to usually be a pain in the arse... :D

JT, great systems mate, have loved reading your threads on the AP system and the WB's... have just dropped a few in at home myself.

One question if i may- everything on WB's i've seen recommends using gravel as the reservoir, what made you go with using the milk crates? Its an interesting concept and the bush around where i live is full of the ones the long-grassers have left behind.

Hey Myst....

I used them because they were free :headbang:

plus it gave me a lot more water volume in each bed..... the ones with milk crates have
approx. 150+ gallons - 567 lt of water whch means less top up...

the first three large wicking beds are about 6 months old and havent put any water in them as it has rained every 3 to 4 weeks...

thanks Bob..... no one around this area knows about this or aquaponics much less.... trying
to educate them now.... but its a tough road, they would rather just go to the supermarket and buy veggies that are void of any nutrition....

since im a yank.. im thinking you mean how much money is spent on the beds :drunken:

I use as much recycled and free material as I can.... I have stacks of old deck boards and rolls of
old used pool liner (for the ground to keep weeds down) so it doesnt take to many "wallets"
to "get 'R done "

liner going in bed 6.... I add water to help hold it in place..... I then pull the wrinkles out straighten the sides and start filling it up, also a close up of just a few of the tom buds...

I am completely covering my old dirt garden with wicking beds.. Im getting to old to get down
in the dirt... wicking beds save my aching back a lot of stress....

File comment: a total of 26 buds on one plant x 4 plants , so approx 100 toms on 4 plants, if they all produce, I hand pollinate them daily to get the best chance

I used your milk crate idea too, Milne.

I think I had my water level too high in the begining but when I read your advice on leaving the air gap, it has worked a treat ever since.
