The fastest growing fresh water fish are:
catfish, tilapia and carp. All of these species require minimal maintenance and grow quickly when fed well and raised in good environmental conditions. These fish can, generally, be raised to a harvestable size in less than 2 years and even as little as 6 months, depending upon the species, food quality and growing conditions.

According to what I have heard from a South American friend, Tilapia reproduces like crazy at 38 C or 98 F, specially if the water aerated very good amount. And they grow faster than anything else.

So, if you can keep your water at that temperature, Tilapia is your best choice.

Not here in Australia... they're listed as a noxious species...

And all of the above is probably true enough.... but why feed fish... that you could eat... just to grind them up... to feed other fish... (to eat???)

If you really want to source some by-product... to make your own feed.... go down to your local fish monger... and buy the scraps/heads/offal etc...

Or just buy blocks of bait pilchards....
