No, leafy is how the gills of their fish look like, since they don't know much about it.

Actually, if you want to do something against these scammers, this posting on their FB or blog will at least do something. Whoever started with it, big thumb up!

If they're selling equipment as well, they may have somewhat deep pockets. I know of one recently started hydro shop in New England with 5 locations. Each one is doing $1M/year in business.

Looks like they're Salinas California-based. If they're smart enough to get through the business formation process, they're smart enough to know what intellectual property is. I can recommend a decent law firm in the L.A. area to talk to about copyright infringement, etc. Not sure if this would be in their wheelhouse but I'm sure they could make a referral if nothing else... Drop me a PM if you're interested...

Anyone who came to our presentation, please send us ANY feedback become we honestly want to get better.

Thank you to both Paul's from Ranesco as well as Kay and Carla who helped direct the conference!

Leafy Gills is around 8 months old and we are already making an impact. Celebrate the win!

We have done our best to work with Joel. We have removed the troublesome pages from our website, as mentioned to Joel we are going to fix the images to be sure that this issue is resolved.

After reading this entire thread, I'm in a tough position and it's challenging to not sound cliche.

We do apologize for causing negativity, we have done our best to fix problem as fast as possible. We would love to learn more from this community if it were permitted. If not I understand, forums are tight communities and I respect that.

Peace and Love.

Received an email last night that had me wondering, and checking through my book and the ibc of aquaponics..
Quote:
On page 25 it states \"the size of the water pump should be big enough to handle recycling the water about 4 times per hour\" but on page 55 it states \"Your grow beds chould cycle the water approximately twice every hour.\" A typo or are you suggesting that the pump needs to be oversized? On page 15 it states, under the heading of CHIFT PIST, that \"the water is fed from the fish tank to a sump tank before it is gravity fed into the grow beds.\" and \"the disadvantage is that the fish tank needs to be raised above the grow bed and the sump tank lower than the grow bed to allow gravity to pull water through the system.\" If the sump tank is below the fish tank it would not gravity feed. The pictures on pages 39, 42, and 44 shows the sump tank above the grow beds and the fish tank below. Some clarification would be appreciated as I am on the edge of putting my system all together.

None of this made much sense to me... And I could make out from this that the person who wrote it obviously didn't have much of an idea..

This is a classic example of someone writing a crap e-manual when they obviously have no idea about aquaponics and they are trying to decipher stuff they are reading online and reword it..
The email was titled "Conflicting Info in Advanced Process Manual", so I looked that up and found Easy DIY aquaponics... Yep, another one like the aquaponics 4 you people spreading bad information...

Nothing like being expected to provide support for the shoddy work of some one else huh Joel?

I've been getting regular e-mails from people who's fish are dieing. Seems they are building systems based on the Friendly Manuals but stocking them based on something completely different. (like 800 fish in a system I would only have put maybe 100 fish in. Or 100 fish in a system appropriate for maybe 12 fish.) (Which I know isn't anything Friendly's would recommend either so I don't know where people get some of their ideas sometimes.)

It's been common to see reports of people stocking 100 fish in systems more appropriate for 15-30 fish.....

And we know where that idea has come from... consistently... for years....

But lots of people keep buying into.. or aligning themselves... with that source....

Hay Rupe, Actually I don't know where that idea comes from (other than maybe the soundbite about growing powers aquaponics where he says one fish per gallon harvest once per year. The soundbite doesn't include that they are harvesting fish small and removing plenty of fish before the year is up and doing water changes and cleaning the gravel beds and have other filters etc.)

Where does that idea come from, what site or authority is promoting stocking tanks with 5-10 times as many fish as is reasonable?

I know with tilapia people get away with many horrible things but there has to be a bit more to it than just the adaptability of tilapia to horrible water quality.

Have 8 tilapia in simple IBC setup. Works good for them, the veggies and us. Imagine a tilapia in a 10 liter bucket with water. If you have any common sense, you know it's a horrible torture for the fish. But then, there are enough idiots that think fish are some strange species from another planet and cannot feel pain or the like. Tsssssss.....
