Oh yes. I have a 50 m2 vegie patch and am embarrassed to say that the only thing that does well is kikuyu. I once had a couple of small raised garden beds that were way more productive. I'm hoping this set up will keep me in veg for a long time coming.

I'm guessing the scoria might keep the snails n slugs off? Its very abraisive.

Snails don't like going over fine sand or dust.
I'm not sure the copper tape would work or if you have to earth it.
Beer traps work and would be ideal underneath your beds.

I use this with great success in the garden and green house - not sure about near the growbeds for saftey of fish ?

They don't like eggshells or coffee grinds either so I would have thought they wouldn't like scoria.

I had great pleasure squishing white cabbage moth eggs on my brassicas. Was so easy to do with the plants at eye level.

Beer trap should be ok with regards to fish and in the case of trout it might be a bonus? Anyone ever tried those iron EDTA slug pellets in aquaponics? They are ok in organics and slowly release iron so they are actually beneficial. Just don't know about the fish and I for one am not game to try it yet.

Ammonia 0.5
Nitrite 0.25
Nitrate 0
pH 8.0
Temp 15 @ 14:00

Looks good to me. Peeponics has ceased only chucking a little fish food for the 6 baby koi once per day.

I'm keen to see nitrates and see what effect it will have on my plant growth. The plants have put on a little growth but I expect mainly from residuals in the scoria and the dam water I am using. Water is clearing up nicely too.

Can plants use urea nitrogen or does it need to run the full cycle?

I love coming to work these days, gives me a chance to get on the forum!!

Hubby is secretly fascinated by it all although he will never admit to it.

Urea => Urease => Ammonia..... with a lag time of a couple of days.... I'd avoid....

You manly members could return to the tank for a couple of more days....

Really? At what level of ammonia should I stop them again?

Must be time for an update! How are the fish going, and are you getting good growth in that huge GB?

Ok here we go. A little but not much growth, only got my fish on sat so I am excited about seeing growth kicking off shortly. Fish are eating but not a huge deal. While I was taking pics this arvo I did think I imagined a little white spot going on there. So I'm guessing salting may be the way to go. Anyone able to quickly tell me the specific gravity I should aim for and confirm that I'm ok to use pool salt? I do have marine salt which may be better but costs $200 a pot so happy to leave that where it is if I can.

Ammonia 0, nitrite .25 and nitrate 10 so I don't think my parameters suck, I'm guessing its a little transplant shock.

Have found milk crates fit well over lettuce and stop birds. Might paint them silver...

I used pool salt, salinity currently at 3.1ppt. I'll have to dig up my refractometer to see what the refractive index is, but just going by weight/vol will get you close enough. I've added 18.8kG to about 6500litres of water, plus there was a bit of salt from the Canna clay, as detailed in my system thread.

As seen in my pics, the white spots were generally on the underside, I haven't managed to get a good enough look at enough of them to see if they are all gone yet.
