If I get this right:

1) Vertical pipe in front of spa pump that is split in 2.
2) T off as bypass valve back to spa. Second line up pergola frame.
3) Non return valve there in line prior to bypass to make sure pump is always primed.
4) Pipes and gate valves down to all GB's.
5) Simmo's auotosiphon back to fish tank.
6) Phone local seafood restaurant and tell them mucho silvers for christmas!

Forgot to add, Glynis at Kangaroo Ground is talking $2 for 150mm silvers, (ph prior, link someone!) Plan on cutting and seasoning my free GB's this wknd. Found a couple tables in the garage to stack GB's on. Get some water in my tank, buy 20mm scoria, start cycling and throw some silvers in towards the end of March.

Sounds like a plan!

I had some old wooden boxes which i placed a disused door on as my base. Passed the fat bastard test. Inching closer to the plumbing stuff which i am slowly getting my head around. Wife says less thinking more doing, but i am trying to go slow and make fewer mistakes. With the extra height being cut this way, they should autosyphon nicely i hope.

At least your wife says less thinking more doing. There are some partners amongst our ranks who get sick of the thinking and the doing LOL (mine not included luckily)

That was my first thought when I saw that door cause they are a wooden frame only and thus hollow not solid

Hi TT,

You're off to an excellent start. I love the spa.

On my next reincarnation, I'd like to come back as the owner of a 100,000 litre in-ground swimming pool.

Welcome aboard.

Gary

Thanks Gary. Don't tell the missus, but we have a 4mt by 2mt by 2mt deep in ground trampoline in the back yard. That's 16000 litres of insulated fish fun right there just waiting to happen.

Gunna prove this system first, wait til it is uncool for the kids to be seen on the tramp, then bang. Isn't it terrible, haven't even got the first one up and running yet and I am already thinking bout the next BIGGER one!

OK, up to the pipe stuff now. Why is there a pipe within a pipe in some GB drain systems?

Thinking of using a T piece at the base of my drain pipe, with the base of the T becoming the external connection to whatever syphon i use. The T base will sit a little above the base of the tank tho. I could put an elbow in instead but think the T will give a little more strength.

If i put a cap on the T outside the tank, perhaps i can run the syphon pipe thru it into the base of the drain cylinder in the tank.

Thoughts?

two types from my knowldge.

the outer pipe holds back your gravel, and the inner pipe sets your max flood level.

or the LES special (which i am using) is a pipe within a pipe within a pipe ;) AKA autosyphon ;)

I too am using a bell siphon modelled off hat Les did. I have had no hicups at all. I would highly recommend using this type of autosiphon.

Thanks VB. Re-read Les's thread. Gonna try and keep it simple, so will go with Simmo's hose in pipe trick first up. As i get a bit more confidence i will experiment a bit more. Time to go get the rocks and get washing.

Can someone tell me where the,"Rock washing made easy," thread is? I don't seem to be able to find it, hehe.
