I have no idea, I suck at math. But there are 3 blades basically, and the blades are at least 8 feet high. I don't know how deep they are, I would have to crank it down to measure that. There is not real gearbox to speak of, just a gear to covert it from 1:1 to 2:1. I have some videos, but will post it later. It is really spinning fast, and our winds are pretty light today.

No gearbox friction in that setup that I can see. It seems to be directly connected to an alternator. Those bearings aren't usually setup to support weight in that direction but rather for tension on the side of the shaft so that may be an issue later.
Also, I think helo expects more than just 8 mph winds regularly.
Its an interesting blade design for sure.I wonder if the deep pockets would actually be trapping some air and maybe causing some inneficency at higher speeds. If your innovating friend is doing some comparison testing, maybe he should try removing some of the blade material near the shaft.

I think he is trying limit the high speed of the blades. He is trying to make a wind mill that works in lower winds than the standard wind mills. Most need winds in excess of 25 mph to get the rated power and his goal is to get it to start in winds as low as 2mph, with peak under 10. Most places around here rarely get above 10. My place is the exception because I am the highest spot in the county.

Got the wall stood back up and will be pouring the concrete on Monday. Then I can start building the greenhouse.

In the mean time I have everything moved to this location, and also going to try out a DWC tank. I added it today, now just to get the material (any ideas are appreciated) to float on the surface, and some net pots.

Good to hear the greenhouse project is moving forward. Even better, you are doing most of the work yourself!

Do you have any ouchy pictures of the fallen wall? The most exciting part of a NASCAR race is the wrecks. Now I wouldn't say the greenhouse is exciting in it's fallen state, but I thought you were supposed to share the good and the bad - if only to help people learn what NOT to do.

I had to hire help to stand the wall up, had to dig out a bunch of ground remove all the blocks and fix a bunch of stuff. Also going to have them help me pour the concrete, to big of a job to do by myself. But the rest will be done by me.

Thanks, I could have probably done it, but I would have had to rent a excavator and it would have taken me a long while.

Wall is up and full of concrete, now no worries on it falling down again. Just need to start on the greenhouse roof.
