I want to install one of those water filters they sell at Home Depot. It would normally be installed in the incoming line of your house, and filter all the water coming in. I believe it is an active charcoal filter. Would this be alright to filter the water going into or out of the FT? The filter element is replaceable and they don't cost very much. What are your thoughts on this? I'm thinking of putting it between the FT and GB. Thanks.

With a typical AP system pump you might find you get very little water flow through it, as generally you need a fair amount of pressure to force a reasonable flow of water through those filters.

That was one of the things I was wondering about. It would still provide water to the growbed wouldn't it?

There isnt much need for a activated charcoal filter between the FT and GB. Is there any reason you would like to use one?

I am starting to cycle and I put the seaweed additive in and the fishtank turned dark brown and hasn't lightened up at all for a week now. Is this normal? How long should it take for the seaweed to be absorbed into the GB and for my water to clear? It's bugging me.

What size is your fish tank and grow beds and how much seaweed additive did you put in?

I have a 300 gal. FT. I purchased a cycling kit from Aquaponics Source. The directions said to add the contents of the seaweed bag and that it would darken the water but it would clear in about a week. Well it's been a week and it hasn't cleared at all. I can't see the bottom of the tank. I was just wondering if a filter between the FT and GB would filter out the seaweed and clear the water?

Give it more time, my fish tank has 2300 litre and 4 @ 500 litre growbeds. I add about 20 ml per bed each fortnight to a month
