actually its black pipe with blue lines I think its more like 30mm.

I drilled a hole about 20cm from the end into the fish tank and it just squirts into the fish tank (or up the clear pipe).
I don't think its sucking air in based on the cut of the clear tube at an angle and me swiveling it around to try different angles.
I was trying to get the air down lower into the tank? as this is better aeration?
Is there a tutorial on creating a Venturi?
At present the pump is pretty much pumping the whole tube with a bit of force (no gap between water and walls)

My crude venturi is just a small hole in the inlet pipe above the water line and the pipe going down into the tank, and it sucks a lot of air
Got a venturi from Paul but haven't tried it out yet

Stick a small diameter "spaghetti" pipe in the hole... bevel cut the end of the pipe... and see if that sucks more air in...

Yeah I think i've tried that - but its the size of the water pipe thats not allowing a gap to be created.

This is interesting - maybe creating an elbow creates a bit more suction

Either I'm addicted to aquaponics or there are a lot of people looking at threads. 1500 mark :) I really love reading and learning from peoples journeys.

I think its because I use to love science and then had some bad teachers later in high school:

Favourite thing was hiding a sheeps heart in the cupboard for 2 months and stinking out the science room.

Today at school I had a science sub period and I shared with the class what NH3 was :) (in a song of course)

1. The time it takes to drain.
I did a test this morning and it took about 50mins from pump off (allowing for around 5mins of overflow) for the beds to drain completely.
Should I make the holes bigger ?

><<?? anyone?
