Just got back from my almost 3 hour drive to get pvc. Found everthing in PVC except for one brass fitting. It is not going to be in the water, and I have no choice but to use it.

Does one brass fitting actually cause any harm? I have been running it for about 4 months now with brass fittings. I can see the disimilar metal issues, but brass is fine for drinking water and such. Most every pond in the world has water that went through metal fittings at one time or another.

I need one like this to go from pvc to PEX, and can't find one in plastic.

I don't think that one or two brass fittings will hurt anything....

I have a couple of brass ball valves in my system, and they have not harmed any thing so far....

That is good to hear, was starting to worry. When I am finished my system I should have 3 brass fitting for 1550 gallons/5800liters. And that is only the fish tank water. Between my sumps, fish tank and grow beds I should have at least 2500 gallons/1000 liters in my system.

Well the pump flows better than I was expecting. I am very pleased with it so far. I tried to figure out how much water was flowing at 8 foot of head, but the container I was using holds 18 gallons, but not sure where the 18 gallon mark is. I filled it to over fill in less than 3 minutes with some leaks because nothing was crimped. That works out to about 360 gallons a hour or 6 gallons a minute. I think it is higher than that though. Need a 5 gallon bucket.

Has anyone tried the brushlesss dc pumps knocking about on ebay - they have a quoted 30,000 hour life (3.5 years) - found a few mentions of them on the site and lots of references to brush type bilge pumps cacking it within a year, though no details on if anyone had tried the brushless.

You could always pickle the brass fittings before you use them. Use 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide to 2 parts hire vinegar. Let the brass fitting sit there for 5 minutes or so. This removes the surface lead.

you can use a 12v to 240v inverter. i have seen them on ebay for less than $300 for 2400watt. the problem is having the battery capacity and solar aray to cope with demand

The cheap inverters are modified square wave inverters.
I doubt a water pump would work well on them...

hmmm, $300 for 2400W... the quality of those units is not exacty what you want for a reliable backup unit, and they are very inefficient in standby too.
