I've always said "you can do what ever you want". My friends and family eat the fish we grow so I make damn sure what goes in to my system is as safe as it can be for all of us. Unfortunately my rabbits don't poo separate to where they wee. So not an option. Koi pellets may be great for koi or goldfish but I'm not eating them. I also make sure that what I recommend others do doesn't carry risk or disease. Just because the fish survive doesn't necessarily mean it is best practice. You just have to do what's right for you Dasboot, but don't recommend it to others unless you know what you're talking about.

Sorry Faye, didn't recommend anything,I read here in a thread there may be an advantage to add rabbit food pellets to the fish feed,so I ASKED the question to confirm,as search as I may I couldn't retrace it,the quote from my last post,I thought was amusing as it was in the same context as my original question. So far be it I am recommending anything to anyone,I thought you might see the humour in it.
Please if iam not welcome here in your forum, just tell me and I won't darken these hallow pages again

Yours.....Andy

Hi Dasboot, don't take things too personally here. You are most certainly welcome. I think Faye is spot on and wasn't too harsh but maybe it came across wrong.

I have been hoovering up the posts here and I know if there's one thing that people are very focused on here it is - what you feed the fish. One of the driving forces for people taking up aquaponics is to know exactly where your food comes from and what goes into it. We can't trust supermarkets anymore to provide us with safe food that does not contain poisons or harmful substances. So when someone makes a suggestion that does not fit with that philosophy they will quickly be put right.

When I first read your post I thought you were suggesting putting rabbit pellets (i.e. poo) into the aquaponics system as a fish feed. My first response was very negative and I did not post it. You see any feces of warm blooded animals can contain parasites and other nasties so it is a big no-no.

So just realise that you're not having an argument but a discussion and sometimes it can get a little heated. I for one have learned so much by sticking around here that I can assure you it is worth it.

Regards, Martin.

Thought this pic was worth sharing as it is very quick and easy, no mess, no fuss microwave recipe. I used barramundi that was grown over the summer and had been waiting in the freezer for this occasion. :)

Barramundi fillets in lemon parsley sauce with winter green salad.

1/2 cup butter melted in glass baking dish
add 2 tablespoons p. flour
2 tablespons lemon juice and mix altogether
coat fish fillets and microwave until fish flakes easily 5 or so minutes.
sprinkle with finely chopped parsley, salt and pepper.

Stars of the season are currently eggs and lemons and so I have been practising spongecake making. The sunshine special passionfruit drop the odd ripe winter fruit and made a great addition to the sponge. Lemon meringue tarts offer an alternative dessert option. Barramundi fillets in lemon parsley butter are easy and weeds from the garden made a great pesto, with home made pasta.
For years I have heard of the benefits of stinging nettle and I am growing quite a patch now for my butterflies. This year I finally collected enough leaves to make a pesto and it is pretty damn good I have to say. Lemon dulip infused with mint makes a great warm winter drink too.

I thought food wasn't supposed to photograph well!? The Green of the Parsley with the tomato red really works and then the yellows tie it all together  - yumm.

This is a first, I've been compared to the motel 6 guy before but not an Iron Chef judge :thumbright: . That sounds like a step up to me. I'd have to be able to give this meal the fork test, to really give it the full treatment though, don't you think? Of course I'd also need a wine, probably a white, and not too dry. Served alongside an infinity pool, by the somalier, a Pink Flamingo in a tux, ah but I digress :occasion5:
