I actually had to google to see what fires you were talking about. The nearest fire is in riverside county, and is 80% contained. No issues in the southwestern most part of San Diego county.

Also, I decided to really pack in the plants tight in this grow bed, I think chard thrives in crowded conditions.

Are the cucumbers yellow because of nutrients?

Good question. One variety is yellow for one reason, another is more green, the pumpkin has had powdery mildew issues. I think I am going to pick up some potassium bicarbonate today.

Looking good Ron. As a kid my favorite bug was the preying mantis. We get them around here too, but they don't seem to grow as big as where I was as a kid.

System is looking great too mate :)

Lovely Fish Ron, how many are you stocking?

Loved the preying mantis pics too. We have some beauties here in South Africa. We get the big green ones but I remember a few years ago we had a hatching of tiny rose shaped preying mantis's all around our house. They would sit on the roses and they would be difficult to spot but they were small and pink and had frilly edges, very pretty.

Martin.

I have not counted in the year I have had them. I started to count when I was putting them in, but lost count around 50. Then I lost some in the plumbing. I have no idea now...

I must have picked up some bionic tilapia. I thought that water colder than 55F killed tilapia. It is 54F in my tank right now, no deaths, they are swimming around like it is nothing. Luckely last night looks like the coldest it will be for the rest of the year. I'm pretty sure the Salton Sea gets colder, so maybee they have adapted for it.

Do you recall what the air temp was when the water was 54F in the IBC tank, and what have been the maximum air vs water temperatures that you've noted?

I've not read the whole thread yet (and haven't found a thread search function), so don't know if you cover the FT at night. It seems to me that stopping the water flow at night would be a good idea in the winters (it's a similar climate here), as this would keep the FT water warmer, instead of constantly recirculating cold water from the GB's. Is this reasonable?

How are your fruit trees performing, Ron? What advice can you offer, now that you are an experienced AP orchardist?
