Well here's an opportunity that doesn't come around too often. We're looking for expressions of interest in Backyard Aquaponics Pty Ltd. Yes, you heard correctly.

There are three possibilities here, and these will depend on a prospective buyer or investor and what interest we receive. In no particular order the possibilities are as follows:

1. Sale of the whole business, including everything, the hardware and shop side of the business, the online aspects of the business including all websites, electronic and printed publications, all rights to everything Backyard Aquaponics including trademarks, suppliers, moulds, stock, plant, equipment, vehicles, everything.

2. Sale of the shop and hardware side of the business. This would include all moulds, all stock on hand, plant and equipment, vehicles, tools, signage, the lot, a profitable business running well, making good money. Excluded from this deal would be the websites, and online publications.

3. Sale of part of the business. Someone could buy into the business if you have a viable skill set the business needs, this could include a variety of business based skills and/or experience, marketing, business management, website and online content management, etc.

Why is this happening? About 7 years ago I said that I didn't ever want to sell hardware or systems, over 5 years ago when I opened the shop Faye asked me what my 5 year plan was and I said "to not be here in 5 years". :) I had always wanted to concentrate on the information side of things, disseminating information to people, encouraging them to give things a go themselves.

That's how it all began many years back with my website, forum and book packages, but the shop and hardware side has taken my time away from doing those things I really like to do, and to date I have not been able to find someone who can do my side of things here as an employee. So now is the time to do something, it needs to be either passed on, or an investor found with the right skill set to ease the load. The magazine has suffered recently as I'm sure many of you have noticed with only 1 edition released in over 12 months, this is something I want to rectify.

Faye is ready to move on now for a few different reasons, mainly because being here keeps her away from her garden. For those of you who didn't know, Faye was Gardening Australia's Gardener of the year back in 2007. Yes, Australian wide, she was voted best gardener of the year. Of course you can imagine the garden was fairly spectacular at that time. But then she started working here and the home gardens took a back step. I think personally she's taken too many holidays recently and realised that it's just way more fun not being at work. :)

Backyard Aquaponics is something special and it deserves new blood, new motivations and enhanced vigour. This can only come about through new enthusiasm injected into the business, so, the situation is open, the cards are on the table, here's an opportunity for someone.

We have all the company financial details and history available, however we aren't going to provide these to everyone, we will be asking those who want to view them, to sign a non-disclosure agreement, as is typical in these situations. Suffice to say that the business is healthy with a "Gross profit from trading" last year of over $400,000. Business is doing well, especially the shop/hardware side of things, this is where we've spent considerable time incorporating systems and organising the day to day operations, so everything runs smoothly.

If someone is interested in buying the whole business, option 1 above, we would include by negotiation a period of changeover help as required for a smooth transition, as well as anti-competition agreements if required.

A few of the more interesting aspects of the business are as follows.

. We have direct supply chains in both China and Europe for some of our more commonly sold products, with other main component suppliers already sourced internationally, cutting costs further in the future.

. Consistently one of the highest google search results for all aquaponic related searches.

. Numerous revenue streams within the business to ensure diversity and stable cash flow.

. Long term growth trends with net profits increasing every year.

. Highly efficient and well trained staff who handle most of the day to day operations of the business.

. Hardware/shop side could easily be run with minimal input from owner.

. The business has one numerous awards and accolades, receiving quite a lot of media attention over the years.

If you have any questions or want some further information please ask. I guess there would probably be a few questions. :)

Well I'll be sorry to see this business change hands. I doubt anyone could provide the same level of online and face to face service that Joel, Faye, and the rest of the team do.

As I really only get to interact with BYAP on this forum, I hope the quality of the forum stays high.

I don't think anything will change in a hurry Dr Luke and I expect that things will more likely grow and get bigger and better. Thanks for the kind words and we think we are really lucky to have such great people working for us who also have the passion. We will make sure that they understand the importance of customer satisfaction too Dr Luke. I suppose we will have to train them in that regard.

I think you may have to do alot of training or screening to get people who allow the forum to stay open in the manner which it is (basically encouraging people to not buy from the shop, to do it themselves).
I hope someone really good comes along, although i havent been here long and dont really know people here, ill be sad to see what seems like great people leaving.

Looking for silent investors?

I assume the only reason Charlie hasn't posted on this thread yet is:

1. He wet himself when he realised he could now own BYAP and award himself a million mods points,

2. He is still on the phone with is bank manager.

:laughing3:
