Trout are due and so I thought I should get the large silver perch out of my fish tank. First scoop, got one, but aah it was a barramundi, second scoop the same. How can six barramundi hide in the shadows of a round tank? Well never mind, Peter has filletted them and lunch at the shop was barra. I know what they must all be thinking, oh no, not barramundi for lunch again. :dontknow:

Yes beware of the hiding Barra. I had one customer a couple of years ago who was convinced he had removed all of their Barra from the tank. I put 60 trout in there for them to grow out over the winter. Come July one great big Barra floated up and then at trout harvest time they only had 20 left!!

Are they feeding, you betcha Gav!
I called out to them last night so they knew my voice, but I don't think they liked me shining the light on them. This morning I welcomed them formally and introduced myself to this years stock. I explained they would be well looked after for the term of their natural life and humanely dealt with at the end. :o

Yeah, all did not look happy last night, I think the silver perch are terrorising the trout a little, or was it me with the light. I couldn't catch those slippery silvers and convinced myself that the trout will be alright with them as the perch don't have big mouths. I am not too concerned about the silvers, my priority is my rainbow trout, they are the hero of my cool season aquaponic system. (Michael did say that hus trout weren't eating. I could not explain why though. :dontknow: ) I will check on them again later, as you do.

Hi,
I mentioned on a thread that someone had said that rabbit food pellets were an advantage added to the fish pellet,I was told not to believe everything I read, well

There are many commercial Koi pond plant fertilizers that are safe for some fish. Should be fine for gold fish as they are a type of Koi. They can be use in an AP system but the purists might take exception to there usage. I do use rabbit poo in my AP system but you have to make sure the rabbit pellets is not mixed with their urine. Again is this pure AP? I have red wiggler worms in my system also; they love the rabbit poo. The end product, worm castings, add many beneficial nutrients to the AP system.

Couldn't resist sorry xx
