tested ammonia again last night and today. I rekon it was about .25 on the scale, so I added some more fish guts and a little bit of maxicrop which I got for 2$ as our local dahlsens got taken over by bunnings and they had it on special.

How long for the ammonia to show up in test after adding CC? (I added about a cup full)

P.S. Icefishman - your wood paneling is still on the cards for the fish tank, as it butts up against an already existing wooden fence - I will make a face of wood and also top. But I'm still thinking I would like to insulate it. Also do fish need light?

It sure is!

All the beans (dragons Tongue) came up in a row.

I've sown radish seeds everywhere.

Pulled the kang kong out as it wasn't doing anything.

Bok choy is going great.

Lettuce is okay but 2 have karked it.

Today I bought an air pump Hailea ACO-2206
2.5x4L/min
4 outputs and 4 airstones

Says 600-800 litre tank but I'm hoping its fine for 1000litre tank?

Yep to that about the air
And your plants will grow better as the system ages. Have you put any worms in the growbeds?

I'll put some worms in - do you wash them first?

In the growbeds I have:
Spinach (from seed), Broccoli, Bokchoy, Beans (from seed), Garlic chives, Marigold, Asian Greens (from seed), Kang Kong, Corriander (from seed), Lettuce, Snow Peas (from seed)
I've thrown in some radish as well
Rocket is next :)

I've got some questions:
-Some areas grow better than others
-The inlet pipe to growbed 2 is about 25cm away from the centre standpipe - Is water spreading enough?
-Will adding oxygen speed up the cyle? (from air pump)
-Will having the pump on constantly rather than timed flood and drain, speed up the cycle?
-I'm thinking of redesigning the pump to fishtank pipe with a smaller diameter and running it down to the bottom of the tank with a venturi. Will this be of any benefit>> my thinking is more air as its lower down and also more movement of water from top to bottom.
-river silt is still there - looks like a dam - should I incorporate a cotton wool filter in a barrel or just pump out the water and refill with rain water?
-Maybe I could make a Radial flow filter and then put some cotton wool in there to clean the silt?

did you see my designs for the greenhouse?

No you don't have to wash worms :)
Distribution pipes around the growbeds are good IMHO in lower flow systems and I have them in my big systems byap beds.
In big flow systems like my ibc system will be after the trout go in this coming weekend and on constant flood only has single point inputs to the beds , but the standpipes are on the other side of the beds by design DONT glue them

First time I've seen purple nitrites and the nitrates are increasing.
