Howdy all, I've been browsing these forums for a while now and finally registered. Lots of knowledge floating around these parts, it's wonderful to see such a vibrant diversity of people uniting for a good cause.

I'm a young apartment dwelling family-man, so aquaponics caught my eye as a means for someone with no outdoors space of their own to create food efficiently. So much so that I am actually attending school starting in the fall hoping to move into a masters in plant sciences with strong bases in sustainable food and microbiology. Aquaponics combines everything I love all in one neat package!

I've just begun my first system to familiarize myself with the ins, outs, ups and downs of the mechanics; it's a very basic, compact system hacked from an ikea storage unit. FT is approximately 13 gallons and the GB is roughly 7 gallons. I'm using hydroton as my medium, and a simple F&D system. It's a quick cycler though, taking about 3 minutes from beginning to fill, to start of siphon...slowest fill I could accomplish and still keep siphon operating. (Is this too fast?)
