One person NOT getting a bad reaction does not mean all people claiming bad reactions are malingering, just as one person having a bad reaction does not mean everyone will have a bad reaction.

Well said Journeyman! Tis true. I do know this as have worked in aged care for nearly 30 years. The flu vax does certainly give a reaction to some of the clients that do receive it ie Flu symptoms . Over the last few years I have seen less aged folks die from the flu as the vax is more often given . It used to take quite a few lives . I have never had the vax myself only because I consider my immune system to be well and truly cranked up from working in such facilities. Will be interesting to see how my immunity changes now that I am working at BYAP and not exposed to such high volume of infections.

I stopped getting the flu shot when I got out the Army (It was not a choice while on active duty) I have not had the flu in over 20 years.

It is definitely a personal choice I believe and I do think that if you have poor health or are easily succeptible to infections then the Flu Vax is a good idea. I do think ,however, the word Flu gets thrown about willy nilly . How many times have you heard someone say they are just getting over the flu when they have just had a cold for a few days. The flu will drop you for a couple of weeks whereas a cold will make you feel crook for a coupla days. A true flu will really stuff with your body, not just give you the sniffles.
Any facility that manages many people will encourage it to minimize the spread and rightly so. If I felt in any way succeptible I would also have had it but I have never suffered so far

I try to do my super-C infusions... Citrus, vit. C tabs, herbal teas with fruit infusion... during flu season. I wash the daylights out of my hands... and I scrub all the desks at least once a week... I use a combination of 409, alcohol and water...soap would work, but 409 kills a lot of bugs. If I have a couple of sick kids, I endeavor to clean every day... but there isn't time enough to do a clean between classes. I have alcohol treated hand wipes I let the kids clean the keyboards and mice of the computer center.

When you teach, you cannot avoid kids... and the MIDDLE SCHOOL kids put EVERYTHING in their mouths... you'd think they were toddlers. In addition, the sneezing, coughing, etc. spreads whatever they have to everything in the room...

The shot is a choice... and based on my response in the Army, I will have that three day reaction. So, I avoid it.

Yeah you don't want to know what's in that army vaccine :dontknow: It is the "good" stuff :-)

I am entitled to a flu vaccine as part of my agriculture studies. and I take it the every other year. I haven't had the flu for some time.

My sister got swine flu last year not very pretty! But not as worse as EHEC from the organic farms.

My young family avoids all immunizations. Full of thiomersol (mercury), aluminium and foreign proteins (egg albumin) that were never meant to enter your body in any other way than through your stomach. Direct blood injection can trigger an auto immune response leading to unpredictable consequences such as allergies.

My mother does not agree with our stance. She had the flu jab last week and is still getting over what can only be described as the mother of all colds! Go figure.

We rely 100% on good health and colloidal silver, the original antimicrobial agent big pharma killed of when they invented antibiotics. Never go to the doctor, except when I needed a pin for a broken hand and a knee recon last year.

If you have good health you certainly dont need Colloidal Silver. Big scam in my opinion. Have done the sprays and made not an ounce of diff. Silver is effective in certain areas eg Very effective with wound care but thats where it begins and ends

Not sure you are serious or not, but this kind of struck a nerve. I can't believe any free human being would tolerate being told they had to do something.

Mandatory shot my arse. No way in hell anyone is going to tell me now that I am out of the military that I have to do anything. There is nothing I will do if someone tells me I have to.

if you are young, or old, or work with anyone in those categories, get a flu shot. its super simple.

of you are generally healthy 20-50 something, then you probably don't need it.

anyone who's ever had Flu will tell you two or three days of a bad cold is nothing compared to it. I got it as an 18 year old, and couldnt even get out of bed for 3 days. every single bone and muscle ached. it was *frack* horrible.

as for those that refuse to have or have their kids vaccinated, thats fine, but stay out of my kids childcare centre/school/playgroup/sports team. In fact, just stay away from all public places, then we are both safe. just look at the current measles epidemic in the UK if you want to understand what happens when not enough kids get their shots. and thats just one disease.

i'd also recommend any who hangs out with kids to get the new whooping cough vaccine. there are some new strains out, and they are real bad news. unless you like coughing so much that you cant breathe, then I guess you can probably skip it.
