It's all been going strong since installation a couple of months ago.



Note that the solar panel, pump and battery is easy to get. What's hard to find is an air pump with the right specs, the one I got is here:

Single barrel system with a solar panel, 10W pump and battery from Crazy Sales. 7 months and has not missed a beat. Not a long test period but it is still undefeated. Good customer service as well with other products I have bought.

I've got house solar panels which I can use the electricity right?

So whats the point in getting a separate solar panel for the pump - the battery ?

Is there a simple guide to setting up step by step if I decide to purchase what you suggested Nebian?

I believe to run it independently


Remember - with elec grid panels, when there is a power cut, it turns off (unless your off grid) so for redundancy, keeping it separate makes sense

The point of getting a separate solar panel for the pump is to keep it all at 12V, which is way more efficient and a lot safer. As previously pointed out it also keeps working when the power goes off...

I like it because it's all fully self contained and there aren't power cables lying around in the garden just waiting for a spade to go through them.


As for a simple guide... erm no, not that I know of. You'll have to do a bit of research I'm afraid. If you get stuck then just ask a question on here and there are loads of people who will be more than willing to help

Perhaps you could write the guide once you've put your system together?

After I get my prototype up and running I plan on going to a full off grid power set up myself. But then again I'm in the process of making my whole 3/4 acre homestead and self reliant as possible. Solar well pump and Water tower. Solar power to produce as much as possible for electricity. I'm hoping that in five years I'll be 100% off grid.
