and it will be a whole lot more serious when finished!!

the plan is to raise it 400mm to give better head clearance, run a heap of NFTs and maybe more fish tanks, sumps and bio filters

Excellent work but takes it away from the family entertainment area it was first set up for.

keeping an exposed system operational over winter down here in sunny melbourne is difficult so it was essential.
there is still quite a large entertaining area in front of the system that isn't shown in any of the photos. to the left of the original setup was basically a massive unused space that will now be utilised.

it does take away from the original design but with the doors to be positioned in front of the fish tank so they will still be a great feature in the backyard

IceMan - Wow! I'm totally impressed.

Actually, just a few days ago I had been telling DH how I wanted to use wood around the IBC's that we have. When I saw this I was like ... "YES! That's exactly what I meant!" and just had to show it to DH last night! Although I must admit I didn't think about putting in a window! That's awesome.

And the new greenhouse looks great! We talked about putting up a greenhouse for ours but I'm not sure if we'll go that long. Wider maybe. We know that we'll be expanding in the future. :)

As with everyone else... I'm blown away.
Couple of questions... I assume the 'greenhouse' was a pre-fab. So, only 8'wide? Please, don't misunderstand... I'm not payin' for it, so I got no cause to gripe, but your 'work room is curtailed by the narrow choice. Or, is it just my aging eyes?

I am mulling over the final choice for mine... And I was thinking 12' width, then GB's to the exterior, plumbing to the center...

Did I detect you raised a floor to step down to the patio level? Good choice there... will also work to conceal, protect and insulate plumbing. The push up for head space... and room for vines to reach for the sun is also a clever move... More bang for the buck, surely.

I'm so jealous!

Glad to be of inspiration, the window is an essential part of any feature system and i now i regret not putting one in mine but that will change later in the year after the trout are harvested.

The greenhouse is wide enough @2.5m but i wouldn't mind one much much larger!!

Many thanks,

the greenhouse is a kit @2.5m so yes approx 8'. surprisingly there is approx 750mm between growbeds and front wall. Oh yeah... its Dad's work space and the other end will have great work area.

We raised the greenhouse to get extra head height and also, as you stated, use it to grow vines etc.

Hey ice,

I'm costing up a hoop house made of fence rail at the moment, would you mind posting where you got your dad's kit from, and how much it cost?

if i remember correctly Dad arranged them through aussie greenhouses on ebay but i'm not 100% certain. As for cost, i'm sure a hoop house would be cheaper
