A quick fall update...

last night got down to 31 degrees here at the coast..... wind was coming across the land and not off the water ....

so saturday I had to get my winter frames built to cover my 2 bed starter system and my wicking beds...

everything else, I just put sheets over everything...

Uh oh. That's looking suspiciously like my PVC greenhousethat was destroyed by the tornado winds a county over from mine.

Here's hoping that yours fares better than mine.

What gauge is that pipe u are using. And is it conduit or water pipe?

My younger plants are getting fried in our Aussie sun, and I have to get some low cost shade up. Was think of going pipe or conduit with 50% shade cloth, but was not sure if the small gauge conduit would hold up to wind.

Cheers

hey bill...

it's a few feet from the back of the garage so very little wind gets to it...

its just there because of the freeze.. but will put shade cloth over it come summer

Im just using schedule 40 PVC 1/2" (12.7mm)

It's lite enough to pick up and take off, but I will have it hinged on one side....

its only for my left over summer vegetables... the winter ones, I just throw a sheet over for
frost protection

the pvc just wouldnt bend to the radius I needed unless I heated it, which I didnt have time to do so
I made it like my other ones....

Nice work, I will be looking at doing something similar, I was also hoping to use pallets but don't like the idea of having to replace them when they rot or get eaten.

A couple of questions if you have the time.

Do you have to bend over to pick the crops? The beds look a bit low for waist high gardening.

With that large a volume of water sitting at the bottom and with all the rain water washing down through the soil is there any stagnation or off smell coming from the overflow pipe? How long for the beds to use up all the water and need topping up with fresh? I guess you'll know once it stops raining.

Cheers
