Well, as you may have guessed the two dont go well together and there will probably be a shortage again in WA this season due to losses on most trout farms. While you lot were sunning down the beach ( Yes I have seen the evidence Faye viewtopic.php?f=13&t=15366&start=60 ) fish farmers were frantically trying to keep their water cool enough for trout survival.

The Fisheries Dept hatchery appears to of been the worst hit losing over 70% of their fish when water entering the premises from Lefroy Brook topped 30C. Even with the cooling towers temps couldn't be brought down to safe levels over the heatwave Xmas - New Year period. As a result I was told that they will have no fingerlings for sale to the public this year.

Here at Ferguson Springs we also lost a few thousand fish when water in the flow through tanks got to 3 degrees higher than previous record high levels. Despite this we still have about our normal seasons stock levels as we were trying to take more through the summer this year.

I spoke to the new operator at King Trout a couple of weeks back and he also lost fish but recons he may have some extra if he could get them through the whitespot outbreak the fish had at the time.

I have heard that Golden Ponds have good numbers of Trout so at least its not all bad news.

Thanks for keeping us in Perth in the loop Troutman. Have you started taking orders for a run to BYAP in April?

Thanks for stopping in Gav and keeping us all up to date.

Many people (including myself) forget about the battler that keeps the fish stocks rolling through what most of us call 'holiday season' so thankyou for your efforts over summer mate.... I know most of us will appreciate it come April/May.

:notworthy:
