I've had mussels in systems with 500gm+ Silver Perch & Trout... no problems...

The biggest threat to mussels in a system.... are salt... and low pH...

the mussels have been in with guppies for quite some time and no issues. as for the ones in the sump tank with the perch and cats, i haven't noticed anything untoward but then again i'm not that active at night when generally the mussels are. i haven't noticed any dead but if one does die i reckon it'll get cleaned out pretty quick

CC is basically powdered fish. A popular product used in AP for an ammonia source when fishless cycling.

Just to point out...not all fish emulsion/sea weed extract plant supplements contain ammonia producing sources, that's why Charlie carp is so popular in Aus AP for fishless cycling.

We should be getting some greenhouses soon, hopefully by the weekend. this will be put over the aquaponics (heavily modified) and another one on the dirt garden.

and also the weekend after easter we are going to pick up some trout from ballarat, i'd love to get some brooks but don't know how they will mix with rainbows

i'm starting to wonder if i will go down the trout path... with the greenhouse going up and me working on some heating options its looking quite promising to keep the system temp in the high teens to low twenties so trout may not be an option

work has commenced on a compost/much heater...
don't know how it will go but its worth a shot.

We scored heaps of good quality mulch last week and as it breaks down it generates a fair bit of heat. my plan is to run a 19mm black poly hose coiled inside the mound and back to the sump tank.

not shifting a high volume of water and may only pump during the night to see how it goes and take it from there!!
