I was wondering the same thing. Of course, by that time, they'd probably be well suited to plant in the ground?

Several years, I hope. The idea is to utilise the modern varieties of fruit trees that have been specifically bred for tub culture, or at least to stay fairly small.
Why, RupertofOz: are you suggesting that we are doomed before we start?

Eventually.. could be...

Recently saw an example of a tree in a blue barrel (don't know how old)... well it was kind of half still in the blue barrel... and half in the growund...

True that I have had some clogging issues. I believe you will get that with all distribution bars. Luckily for me, we got a little knock on our door this morning by the arborists our HOA hired. They asked us to move my car. They then pruned the offending tree way back. I will probably be putting it back on soon.

That has worked out well for you, Ron. Of course the clogging of the spray bar/distribution bar is a function of several variables such as pipe diameter, hole diameter, number of holes in bar, existence of pre-filters, water pressure and so on. What size pipe did you use? From memory it looked like 20mm or smaller.

I wouldn't use anything smaller than 20mm.. for anything... in fact I don't use anything less than 25mm... and any distribution bar has 6mm holes min...

My distribution pipes are all 20mm, with 6mm holes.

Thank you for sharing, rsevs3.

That makes sense. If your pump handles 6mm solids and you are pumping from FT to GB then your distribution bar holes need to be a minimum of 6mm diameter.

It is now official - the 'Puddle' is no longer a swimming pool but an aquaponics system! It contains both fish and plants: well, one plant, anyway. Today we planted a mandarin tree.

Lets hope the trunk doesn't get thinker than your wrist, otherwise the pipework will be in trouble.

If it gets too big, just plant it in the ground.
