For people posting links to another post.
Today I noticed this post:
creative1 wrote:
These are for marron but could easily be down sized
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3473&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=705

about half way down the page is a cage, some are in some are not.

I have seen this a bit from many different ppl, so thought I'd give the following tip:

Find the post you wish to link to.
Look in the top right hand corner of the post.
You will see the date and time it was posted.
Left of the word 'Posted' is a 'page' icon
Click this icon, you will notice the page reloads to exactly that post.
copy the url from your browser's address bar and us that as your link.

In C1's case the following would work better than "About half way down the page"
http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=166813#p166813

Note the difference in urls:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3473&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=705

vs the new:

viewtopic.php?p=166813#p166813

you can see that the first url give a post number to start from
the second, gives the post ID to jump to.

There is also another way this can be done:
http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3473&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=713

in this final case I found the post number 705, and counted down to the post I wanted to appear at the top of the page, which was the 9th post on that page.
705 + 8 more posts = 713.

C1: not intending to single you out here, but I find examples easier to explain.

Hope this helps ppl :-D

some advice for newcomers to the forum

when you want to update your system thread, but you can't remember where you left it.... try using the search engine on the forum

alternately, go to your Profile (the button is at the bottom of any of your own posts) and try looking up your most posted thread.

you can also go to the top right hand side of the forum and click on View Your Posts.

Any of these methods should work for you.

This will help reduce the number of single posts threads that are just updates of an existing thread.

thank you Image

Are you human?: Only after 3 coffees
Location: Happy Valley, Adelaide, SA,Australia.
I use to know how to do this but has been to long,

Instead of posting the full URL how do you simplify it to a single or couple of words, many members do this in their signiture for their own threads. Cheers

Are you human?: YES at least mostly

Here is an example

In order to make my link appear like this

Aquaponic Lynx

I have to use the following code

Code:
[url=http://www.aquaponiclynx.com]Aquaponic Lynx[/url]

(basically sticking an = and the url inside the bracket for the url tag and then between the url tags you place the text you want to display)

Does that help?

Another tip is when you want to practice posting links and you tube clips etc you can PM yourself and see if you have it right. It gives you a chance to muck around with a bit without looking like a rookie on the main forum.

I was hoping to discover the method to do both an Icon for m'self... and add a signature. I've got the check box marked, but cannot see where to design the signature.

HALP!

Go to the "user control panel" tab
Click on "profile" under options on the left
On the left again choose to " edit signature" and "edit avatar"
Good luck - you will have to resize the avatar- use the search function to resize image
Hope this helps and my fingers are crossed for you.

It may be clear that I did find a way to do all that I asked about... and the directions were right on the money.

How I missed the parts of the profile... I do not know. I did.

Suffice to say, I discovered an additional 'resize' software... I did download the suggested... and it didn't like something about what I was doing...
So, good ole' google... and I got this::

http://www.picresize.com

A little tedious, but usable!
