Thought it might be time for a bit of a pictorial update :)

The new family system chock full of spring onions, kang kong, basil, ceylon spinach, cherry tomatoes, capsicum and the edible canna with the gorgeous coloured striped leaves -canna edulis.

The rhubard is going crazy this year and the leaves are huge, I may have to harvest them and allow some light to get to the other plants. The katydids have made some big holes in some of the leaves unfortunately, however that will not effect the stalks.

I just love these little fells, they are around 4 years old (I think) and are very slow growers. Lately they have been getting more feed and they have added a fair bit of size. Two of them reside in one of the balcony systems and the growth is more than sufficeint to make it worthwhile. It just goes to show that you don't have to have large fish numbers to support the growth.

Seen growing here in one of the systems is parsley, mustard, basil, mizuna, chives and rainbow chard.

The blue barrel systems are looking pretty good and are providing a good supply of herbs.

Looking great Faye.

Do your rhubarb stalks turn red? I grew some for a while and they were huge but stayed green the whole time.

I love the catfish, can they co-exist with silver perch in the same tank?

Will

how many fish and what is the pump cycle for the herb garden, I keep finding info that herbs don't like getting over fertilised and waterlogged. and I sort of tried a few that didn't seem to take well at all. the only herbs that seems to grow well in my systems is basil and parsley. i don't have the guts to put mint in there!

I have sage going nuts in my CF bed, and I have even heard of success with rosemary in CF, which is strange as it Is a woody herb.

DO NOT put mint in your GB, I learnt the hard way (I had to excavate my entire 500l GB to remove the root mass of one mint plant) :upset:

Red rhubarb is the bain of my life. I did a bit of research and discovered that the stalks will become red if the temperature is cool enough. There are however different varietis available and yet I am only able to grow them with green stalks, nevertheless they taste the same. I wont be giving up though Bigwill, and if I discover how to make them red, I shall let you all know.

Jensilaedi, the blue barrel system is running constantly flooded and the balcony system is on a timed cycle, I think 1/2 on and half hour off. We have never had any trouble growing herbs here in any of the systems.

Thanks for that toooooo! I wasn't intending on putting mint in mine, but i was considering keeping it in a pot somewhere isolated. I have a lot of apple-scented mint growing everywhere near my pool area but I love its foliage and smell.

Just that when my family is cooking meals they ask me if I have any mint or parsley growing and I go red with reply "no" and i'm sick of saying that.

This one has stayed red all year. I have picked stems at 60+ cm. Doesn't like constant flood , not for me anyhow , could've been flooding to high :dontknow:

Thankyou Matthew, I will put it on my wish list , one day I say, one day my rhubarb will stay red. :)
This morning I picked some stalks from here for Sue as part of her celry packaging, you should've seen the  on her face. Homework I call it. I had to pick them because the leaves were larger than dinner plates and the stalks were over 30cm long, too much shade on the bed, 'twas a nice haul.
