I have seen wicking beds prepared by Fish N Food and Jessy here & am impressed with what has been accomplished.

My question: Can I safely used carpet in the lower tank section of the resevoir rather than gravel or sand. I have a ready supply of carpet pieces that will be easier to use, however, I don't want to screw things up by cutting corners.

-Would the nylon carpet wick?
-Would it be safe to use?

Thanks in advance for your help!

its not the cloth that wicks up its the dirt you dont need sand chips nothing but dirt i only used coco koi because i had heaps of it
I think the most important is have an air void like my milk crates so it doesent stagnate

the way its written, it sounds like you want to use carpet sections to make up the reservior.... I wouldnt as you never know what would leach out of the carpet and carpet backing....
