Yeah, Ryan... I was looking for the price... but the catalog shows them... The 'strawberry pots' I saw in one place... but the design was for strictly hydroponic 'mist' growing...

Guess I'm gonna have to research the heat gun. And asbestos gloves... I have an aluminum water bottle...

DLady, your local Home Depot may have something for a heat gun starting around $23. Who knows, depending on budget, pawn shops may have for cheaper but then you risk quality. Then again, another month or two, you could just leave the pipe on the ground for the morning and form it after lunch. Or maybe put some of those afterburners from Nellis to use... ;)

I spent a year trapped in a Budget Suites on W Trop. while out to build "O"...

Thanks Ryan for posting the link to your article. I wondered about friction loss when plumbing my system. I used short 90s of course. Now that I know that a twelve percent increase can be obtained I'll use the sweeps. I have to re-plumb anyways since I'm adding diversion and indexing valves.

I'm in Orlando and I'd love to visit your farm. Please let us know when your ready to accommodate tours. My wife and her Girl Scout Troop is interested in learning how food is grown. Thanks for a great thread!

- John

My tanks are rectangular. Do you think there would be benefit by adding curved sections of food-safe plastic in the corners of the tank?

I came across this today and figured some might want to give it a read. It's an article on friction loss I co-wrote several years ago for pond trader magazine. I constructed a test apparatus and recorded real world flow rates through a 90's, 90 sweeps, and double 45's.

Thanks tons Ryan. That's some great simple stuff right there that could make a big difference when coupled with other elegant/efficient changes in a system. Any other info. you happen to stumble across I'm sure we'd all be more than thankful!

Peace...

AAhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... our lovely desert sun.

Yeah-- My boy worked on City center... their porte au coshere was glass (sp?) and turned into a series of magnifying glasses directed toward one of the pool areas... there was a law suit when a gal set a 'shopping bag' next to her chair... the stuff melted, and when she picked it up, burns on her leg...

It is true... if I only want to do strawberry pots on certain days. But you know how life is... you never get the weather on the day you have the time. I'll endeavor to check out the heat gun at Home Depot...

Thanks!
(oh... and the dancin in the herbs... I worked at Herbs & Spice & Everything Nice... became an herbalist ... My given name is Melody-- use what ever's easier.)

Just got to reading it, Ryan, and everyone is correct. That IS a great article and things that I'll definitely be putting into practice in the future.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah AH, rounded corners are better so solids don't get trapped in them. You can also creat a small manifold for each corner (that will keep debris from settling) but it may be a bit much depending on your tank size. Not planning on big tours due to a bad road to get there and bio security concerns but if things change I'll definitely let you know!

Hes lucky I wasn't in the mood to teach him a lesson about respecting your elders! :D (I let the cop do that with a ticket!)

Hit me, then try to fight me... USA!!!!

I've been extremely busy the past few weeks but have been making good progress. I'm taking a break from posting build pics as I'm doing some automation and different filtration methods that I don't want hashed out online before I can prove their worth. Waiting for some custom filter tanks to arrive and the fish portion of the system will be complete.

I DO however have some more awesome AP veggie pics! Enjoy :D

I've done 4 interviews with mags/newspapers in the last week so I'll post them up as soon as they are published. Also currently featured in this months issue of "Fish Farming News" (which I know you are all avid readers of) but I don't think they have an electronic version.
