Here's another recent Australian commercial "integrated aquaculture" operation that's recently been announced.. in Goulburn NSW...

wow, many serious money invested in Australia in AP business, one day with a bit of luck we will be up to this standards in Europe too, in a few more century maybe....

On quick glimps I didn't see any "ponics" mentioned.

Me either, just that the whole system is environmentally friendly. With tanks that size it must be a sizable vege patch...

I just say

Unfortunately it is getting to the point where new members can not follow this long running theme of ridicule against such operators, which a number of members participate in, and are misinterpreting the jokes/sarcasm.

Because it's not AP when you call it integrated aquaculture and specialy if you filter out the solids

got to call it ponics if it's to be considerd real hehe

It's allready in Europe funded by EU as part of the "new" http://ec.europa.eu/environment/water/w ... ex_en.html
but it's not called Aquaponics it goes by the name integrated aquaculture

Glad to see that some people do have faith in Aquaculture/Aquaponics just have to make sure you select the right fish species, maybe Murray Cod is the one.

I didn't sense any negativity. Even in hindsight rereading the posts I don't see it.

Aquaponics is one method of Integrated Agriculture the two terms are not synonymous. Aquaponics is integrated agriculture but integrated agriculture may be or it may not.

I didn't see any "ponics" either and it seems that they are only saying that there methods are capable of being integrated with hydroponics.

In Europe, in particular in commercial aquacultur (landbased RAS) I see more and more of Aquaponics, but you hardly ever see that word (Aquaponics) used to describe the integrated solution even iff it is AP.
You often find refrenses to Nelson/Pade and if you/any bother to read those refs. then the magic word pops up

I can only speculate on the reason, but would gues, that one is, here in Norway you need to hold a Bachlor (2 year uni)
minimum (in aquatics) to be responsible person in a commercial Aquaculture venture (unless you where in the buisniss before 2011)
as a result of the "new" water and biodiversity EU directives (framewoork) So you have to hold or hire it.
The fish (aquaculture) part is where the money is here.
You don't need any degrees for the agri part of a AP operation (commercial) here.
So it's werry different from AU where the produce (agric) seems to be "the thing"

We are (Norway) not member of the EU but we have adopted the rules to be a part of the iner marked, and unlike a lot of EU member states our economy is good, so we have implemented the new rules.
Unlike a lot of member states, like Spain, Portugal,, Greece and others, they have got it posponed (some until 2025), do to their bad national economy situation.

Nah.... there's money in fish here in Australia Soltun.... which is why you'll see "integrated aquaculture" systems popping up over here...

As opposed to the US low density plant centric models...

Don't get me wrong... they'll produce a large volume of plants as well...

Fact is Australia imports 70% of seafood consumed. So consider fish farms, of any variety, attempts at profitable import replacement.

I know the money is in the fish.
AU and NZ are important to Norwegian exsport in aquaculture technology
I know that some AU blufin AQ operator bought the splitloop design in this here http://www.akvagroup.com/downloads/akva ... 072dpi.pdf

Bloody hell!!! that is one impressive brochure. Seems like there is some money in supplying technology/systems.

Some ideas there for Bullwinkle to work on with automation.
