the girls are going really well, as soon as someone goes into the backyard they start getting excited thinking they are getting some special treats!!

the run has needed some extra shade over the past few weeks but they seem to be handling the heat just fine.

nice work.... Ive had chickens now for 8 years, they are a great addition to the backyard.

I have between 16 and 50, depending on who is laying and who isnt ;) I incubate the eggs myself, is very kewl listening to them a day before they actually hatch :D

i'd love to have more but we are only allowed to have 12.
If i had a larger block i'd do so much more, bigger AP systems, more chooks, maybe sheep etc

Thanks for sharing that, Iceman. Hope yours works out well. I may have to implement that in the future.

the only thing to be mindful of is anything around that can be flicked on top when the chooks are scratching around... i will have to sweep stuff off every couple of days, but thats no big deal!!

I think I may build a raised setup at one end of the coop. Right now they only have under the henhouse to escape the rain. This could provide another while at the same time keep them from kicking everything else on top of the feed bed.

I haven't updated this thread recently but 6-8 weeks ago we got some additional chooks to take the number to 10. after a few weeks we lost one of the girls, it wasn't nice and we did all we could to save her but it wasn't to be.

But.. since that they new three have settled in fairly well, there is the occasional squabble but its all good.
Today it looks like at least one of the new girls is laying as we had seven eggs today...FINALLY!!!
