Looking at picking some up next week, price $50 each. The guy said they contained methane, apart from the pong is there any reason they couldn't be cleaned up for tank or GB use??

My guess is that he meant Methanol which is an organic solvent/alchohol. I don't believe it leaches and should be really clean and free of any residue. Would still wash it though.

All need a proper wash out, warm water and lots of soap at lest twice. I would then use white vinigar and bicarb, good scrub and pressure wash out. Its what you can not see and smell which will give you the most problems

Here are some in the Quokka (Perth) for $50 each. I purchaced 3 for another project. When I spoke to the guy he said they contained Urea and water. They look clean and are in good condition.

Sounds like they had DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) in them because purified Urea diluted with purified water is all DEF is. Those totes are great, and IMHO could be considered clean from the start. I'd probably rinse them out of habit if I obtained any, but provided that's all they had in them even rinsing might not be necessary.

I see DEF totes on flatbed trucks on occasion, and I've called a distributer in Oklahoma from whence they come, but I've yet to find a good end-user who is willing to let the used ones go.

In the meantime, the molasses totes I've been getting are superb, and cleanup is as easy as you might guess.

I picked up 6 for $40 each the other day from the natural gas well industry. They contain a soap solution they use on gas wells and clean up really easy.

Brisbane it is still available at $100, food grade that has had a concentrated brine solution. IBC's are only 2 months old and excellent condition.

For those in Victoria, Gerry on 0XXXXXXXXXX in Shepparton has any number of clean IBC's available - gets them from Murray Goulburn (I think) and they are as good as brand new. $50 each as of about a month back. Pick up only as far as I know.

But he said last time I was there he has a steady supply of them.

Are you human?: yesterday

In Canada, I just found a company giving away free food grade IBC containers, about a 4 foot cube size.
But I would have to drive about 1000 km one way just to pick up as many as I wanted.
They just want to get rid of them, as I guess it must be too much trouble sending them where ever they came from.
They also were the closest ones to me, that I have found to this point, but a bit far to drive at this time.
I am still looking for one or two.

In puerto rico I paid $80 each, delivered to my door from a guy who buys them from coca cola. I think he gets them for $45.00.
