It's underwater and hidden under the pump so no, I won't take a photo. That pump stays put till it dies.

1.
Get a bit of pipe, say an inch, that fits snug inside your intake pipe, (intake = after undergravel filter and before pump) cement it in.
2.
Drill a hole the size of an airline (not Quantus, too small hehe) through the section of 'double pipe'
3.
Cement airline in the hole you made.
4.
Run airline up to the air.
5.
Turn pump on.

Done.

Last time I tried explain this I got a load of feedback on cavitation and pump wear etc. Whatever, y'know. It works a treat.

Try googling venturi, read the venturi thread, search here for 'my little toy' thread for a home made model that comes after the pump.

Thanks AA - is not disimilar to a venturi I made a while back. I didn't end up usign it for long as I decided I was gettign better oxygenation using my waterfall. I will put it back into commission when I put some DWC additions on my system.

It consists of a 20mm valve socket and 20mm faucet socket screwed together then drilled to include an air pipe (a sprinkler riser).

It works as a venturi because the inside of the treaded part of the valve socket is only about 17mm in diameter. This means that when the 2 sockets are screwed together the water passing through will go from about 23mm (which is the inside diameter of 20mm pressure pipe) to 17mm and back to 23mm. The air intake is in the 17mm part, resulting in the sucking in or air.

It is pretty much the same as what AA has done by pushing one pipe into the other, only mine cost more (69cents for valve socket and 79cents for faucet socket.

Here is pic of it all together.

File comment: All together. Normally there would be 20mm pressure pipe on the other side also.

Here is a professionaly produced one that i got from Muzza - works really well as those who have seen Murray's system in action can attest.

AA - sorry for the hijack. I will split these venturi posts (starting from my question) out later into a different thread.

No worries VB, it's good information, and you got pics to help the explanation, and all 3 designs will come in handy for DWC.

No - that's probably because I split it out of a different topic after he was banned.
