Hello there,

I have been thoroughly enjoying all of your threads.

I recently decided to try and make my own indoor aquaponics system constructed out of an old wine box and 10 gallon fish tank. After much trial and error, it is growing well. Thanks for viewing!

Here is the result:

I threw a few handfuls of sunflower seeds in there, along with some unrooted strawberry runners, and various sprouts (bok choy, parsley, swiss chard, collard greens, basil, etc)

Thanks!

The 'big' fish is a "Paradise Fish" . It can (mine actually prefers to) breathe real air since it is a Labyrinth type fish.
I have had the Paradise for a few years and it has always been very personable. It even survived a claw pinch from a 'red claw' as I have seen the little blue crawdads called here.

Also in the tank: 2 guppies and a plecostemus

Wish I could take credit for the music, but I just lucked out with a good set of classical guitar on the radio. I believe plants really dig classical music.

Thanks again!

Ok, well, like it or not, here is an update video on the Wine Box. I try to explain my setup as best as possible. I use a very different style of "bulkhead" and a much smaller (1.25") simpler bell siphon.

Considering the fact that this is a small indoor system with limited grow bed space, I wanted to try and use a smaller bell siphon than commonly found on the interwebz. I still feel like the bell is an eye sore, takes up valuable grow space and quite simply just a novelty, but I can always just take the bell off and CF it or put the pump on a timer if I grow tired of the random flushing noise while I sleep 5 feet away...

I know trying to reinvent the wheel and all, but I really did not want a 4" gravel guard. All n all, it works just dandy and I am happy as a clam. I think I am ready to really plant it up! and then on to my next project... Desktop Betta-ponics!

Check out the new Wine Box Aquaponics setup. I think its much better than before.

Thanks!
