Just don't throw out any females with a mouth full of eggs! Remember that they will retire and not eat during incubation.

I think I also would take the 'out they go' approach right now. You can still afford the loss of a few like that rather than chance them re-infecting the tank.

So have you had to toss any since the death pictured above? Are things going 'well' or 'really really well'?? :)

Only one other but it was one that I expected to die but could never catch. There is one with a spot on him but looks more like a scar. I have not been able to catch him though....it is hard in my tank to catch specific fish. They are all eating incredibly well. I am feeding almost a pound a day of pellets and throwing in leaves of lettuce. I hope soon to see my seeds take off.

I have not had any births that I have been able to see since the crisis. I had floating plants that shielded the fry but they died with the salt so am going to try some other ones...they keep eating the roots so not sure if I will get any to take root now.

That sounds great, DT! A pound of food a day--goodness!!! Hungry fish! I'm up to about 1oz/30grams of food a day for 126 fish. (Still holding DD's fish for him.)

My fish are quite a bit bigger than yours... In spite of everything, they seem to have grown through it all...

For breeding tilapia ...

a few flower pots, old coffee mugs on the bottom of the pond make great little caves for them. (They can get very territorial!)

Then you will really start to get some fry together and catching them is fairly easy. One method is to catch a female that is "holding" and put her in a small container until she spits the fry out. A gentle prizing open of the mouth with a fingernail works if she is a little reluctant.

I have just had my third generation! 8)
