Curious about the white sediment on my hydroton. A little bit about the setup:

-In my basement
-Been cycling for 3 weeks
-4 small goldfish doing fine (temp and ph low enough that ammonia is not toxic)
-Temp 71 F / 21.6 C
-PH - 7.4
-Ammonia - 8ppm (Will this drop over time or do I need to do water changes?)
-Nitrites - 2ppm
-Nitrates - 5ppm

Thanks!

As per vk3laj have you added salt to your system?

In regards to your ammonia and nitrite levels.

1) Stop feeding until the ammonia and nitrite are 0.25 or better still 0.
2) If you haven't salted your system, salt to 2ppt (2kgs per 1000 litres of water) to mitigate against the affect of nitrites on your fish.

Before Hydroton/Hydrogran fell off the face of the earth there were issues with high amounts of salt in some batches.
