So, after last year's "summer that never came", the year's is a record-breaker. 44C in the aquaponics shed yesterday; 28C in the fishtanks...

And this morning (which is typical Southern Highlands - cool, overcast and misty rain) - this fella was floating:


I hope there aren't more dead trout at the bottom of the tank.

Hope so as well Michael.... they seem to have grown well since they went in...

Day after day of stinking hot... it's like being in one of the uncivilized bits of Australia - QLD or WA...

In other news, only one trout didn't make it through the unprecedented heatwave.

Bummer about the trout.

It was only the 1 trout... he's still got 30 left.. eating and growing...

True - but it was only one.

So, one jumped out within an hour or two of getting here; one died in the heat (climate's not changing, nothing to see here, move along) - so we've got 28 left.

Any dead trout is no good... unless it's on your plate.

In other news, now that tank temperatures are a more reasonable Southern-Highlandsish 16.5C, the trout are hitting the surface so hard at feeding time I'm getting wet - and the silver perch have gone to sleep.

I met a new friend when I took something off a low shelf in the Aquaponics shed this afternoon:


We looked at each other for a while and decided not to bite each other.
