This is my first aquaponics system.
1000 litre fish tank
cattle trough for a grow bed
200 lite blue tank for a sump
12 volt battery backup using relay from Murray for power outages, very useful with all the storms recently. This runs a 12 voly bilge pump commected to a fountain sprinkler type head.
The sumo has one of Marrays floating switches that has been faultless.
I've been running for a bit over three weeks, ammonia now at 2ppm, nitarates at 10 ppm. Bed innocultaed wtih bacteria starter from aquarium.
I've order 2 of Murrays 585 litre grow bed to add in.

trying to follow flow of last picture...

Pump from the tank to the growbed on a timer, then returns to the sump and pumped to the fish tank controlled by a floating switch in the sump. The battery is just to aerate in case of power failure. "The Book" talks about power failures and loss of fish, so I put this in from the start.

The tank has had Sodium Hydroxide in it. No big deal and easy to neutratise.

Hi Mark,

I like your use of the long stock trough as a grow bed.

I had a similar idea some time back but when I priced a new trough it scared me off. I'd jump at it if I could obtain some secondhand units.

Good luck with your new system!

Gary

MF was saying that in USA he could get the troughs in bulk orders of 1000 for $5 each. This did not include any type of stand.
