So I am going to start up a new system with some components I have lying around. First is the fish tank, it is a 400L plastic bin (see photo) that was a parts bin off a trolley. How can I tell if it will be safe to use? Just fill it with water and leave in the sun and wait for algae growth?

I intend it to be quite a basic system of 4 to 6 small plastic boxes (~40L each) as the growbeds sitting on a wall above the ft with a basic f&d setup.

What is the best way to plum in the growbeds? I use BYAP standpipes in my current system but they will take up a lot of room in the new small growbeds. Should I attempt autosiphons?

Ay ideas will help!

Wll

Algal growth would be a good sign bigwill.

As for plumbing, I think porter's system used smallish tubs, I'm not too sure how he connected them though...

I don't think the family are taking my test to find a suitable fish tank seriously.
