Hi,

My name if Tarun and I lve in India. I joined the forum yesterday.

I have been reading about AP since the past 6 months and am convinced that it would do very well in India.

I would like to help the poor farmers in my country to set up their own AP systems which can be built with locally available materials and which would not be hard on the farmer's pocket. Basically, I want the farmers to grow their own food and fish - not only for their own consumpion but also be able to sell their excess produce to earn a living.

The government encourages organic farming and is subsidising deserving farmers if they want to set up a green house (min. 500 sq.mt, max: 1,000 sq. mt). I would like to contribute to this effort for the upliftment of the poor farmers in India by working with the Government Agencies to provide training to the farmers to learn AP and help them build their own AP systems from locally available materials.

I will appreciate any suggestions/ideas, proposals which would help me to promote AP to the farmers in India. It should be simple, robust. efficient and low cost.

I hope that the members will help me in my cause.

Thank You,

Tarun

Thanks for your response. electricity is a problem. Don't get it 24 x 7. But, that can be taken care of by installing small UPS system is the power requirement is not very high.

Basically, the syetem should be inexpensive, robust and made from locally available materials and easy & simple to operate. It may be possible to import completely knocked down systems initially and assembled here. Later, after having studied how it works, the components can be replaced witn locally available components. Importing critical components which may not be available locally will not be a problem.

SIMPLICITY with reliable components, scalability and low cost with trouble free operation is important.

Suggestions, designs, component specs, costs etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Tarun

How common are used food grade IBC's there? Most people never realize how common they are until you start looking for them. You may want to look at the LEAP systems since reliable power is an issue. People often forget to add electricity as one of the needed inputs into an AP system.

Issue 13 of the BYAP magazine has an article on a aquaponic system which was built in rural India. Can be purchased from the shop as a PDF Down load, cheers
