I’m a newcomer and have no idea where to start and I see I have a lot to learn, one corporate decision I have made is to start small and use yabbies, any pros and cons would be very welcome.
PS Is there anywhere on this forum I can get a list of abbreviations used in the posts.

Welcome flipper :wave1:

Use the board index to search some of the basics and the IBCofAquaponics link is also very handy. The search function is good if you are looking to search a particular word or topic.

To get you started on the accronyms heres the link (also found in the board index under 'basics')

Hey Flipper, welcome. I'm in Bendigo so not too far off. I've just put a yabbie in bubble into my FT after killing the goldfish I had in there - apparently even a little tap water is a bad thing, even if you add it via the GB's (grow beds) I was short on rainwater and figured, let the buckets sit for a couple of dsays, should leach out the chlorine, then pour it into the GB and it should filter through.

Mind you I'm not alone in stupidity - the local council here decided to clean the ornamental pond at the Chinese museum and killed 200 fish, including some goldfish more than 10 years old.

And we drink that crap... (well, I don't, I've been using reverse osmosis for about 10 years or so, but almost everyone else drinks it)

She's been in there about 3 weeks and about a week back I found I had lots of little wrigglers swimming around. Growth seems slow but they're still there so I am trying to find out what to feed them.

I'm just starting too.

2 that I've leart
SLO = Solids Lifting Overflow
CHIFT PIST = constant height in fish tank, pump in sump tank

The best help I've had is to start a thread in 'Members Systems' and post your progress there.

Hi to all! Thanks for the welcome’s I haven’t started yet at the moment I’m putting up a shade house to house the system although the minister of finances thinks it’s for her plants HA! HA! Would like to get around and have a look at systems in operation, at the moment doing a lot of reading and research.

AndJourneyman I hope the little wrigglers are going ok, I don’t drink town water myself, John Wayne used to say water should only be used to wash whisky glasses in.
