it concerns me that the forum is having issues handling the existing load... it doesn't appear you have any overhead for growth.

Upgrading account right now which will double the CPU, double the memory, double the space and double the bandwidth, that has to fix things.. :dontknow: :)

Kind of sounds like the shotgun approach. Might work but they should be able to monitor the memory and CPU usage and tell if you're maxing out. While it could be software issues it kind of sounds like a piece of hardware could be going bad or it could be hitting a bad memory address something along those lines. Memory, Hard drives and Power Supplies all do some really flaky things when they are about to die or if they are overheating. Hang in there Joel :thumbright:

Yeah, yeah, they SHOULD... Things SHOULD work, they should be able to fix problems, they should be able to tell me what's going wrong... This started christmas eve and I've been in contact with support pretty much every single day since then.. Originally the whole server was crashing out for hours on end, now we are down to small glitches...

Rsevs3 is helping as well, having a look in the back end, checking some logs etc.. Sometimes with some of these problems you just have to keep trying till you get the right support person, one of the smart ones that says "oh, hang on, might be such and such, that fixed things once before when there were weird problems."

Seems I've been working through an array or idiots, the ones who drew the short straws to work over the christmas period.... a bit like me....

Arrg!!!

Just happened when I tried to post and lost it!!!! I've also had this happen when doing searches on the site.

So I got the error and thought I lost it but it posted anyway :?

I'm going to guess it's a hardware issue with either the Hard Drive, Memory, or Power Supply having gone or in the process of going bad or overheating. I'd be swapping out the memory if I were them, since it's the easiest to try. My 2 cents probably aren't worth a lot in this department - The guy to ask is the 10 year old if you've got one around and then if he's not available the network engineer.

This error has always been a permissions issue whenever i have moved things around. The folders move but the permissions don't.

But a permissions problem would be consistant wouldn't it... not intermittant...

I'm getting it a lot today - probably 6 or 7 times in the past hour or so.

Maybe when moving, Copy the folder rather than create a new one, and rename the folder to what you want and then delete/add the files in it? The Copy should take the current permissions across and then parent permissions should apply to all child objects.
