Hey I saw a guy on youtube from Mass. He had a green house that was set up to be almost 100% automated. One thing that he had that I am curious about is something to track PH, Temp, O2, etc levels and if anything is getting out of wack it sent him an email. All of this was done through an old crappy laptop. Does anyone know where one would get said sensors/ programs to do this. I have the old crappy Laptop, just need the accessories. :dontknow:

arduino is the easiest homebrew way I think. then all you need is the cash to splash on sensors.

I use a ysi5500 monitoring system for intensive culture. It monitors DO, PH, EC, ORP, and temperature. You can have it drop the data into software that comes with it so you can access it anywhere. You can even change parameters (such as dosing which I do off of the PH Values) from any computer with an Internet connection.

I would also run it through an auto-dialer so that you get a call if you lose flow or O2 levels drop.

A must for intensive operations, but you don't see it much on small scale projects ($pricey$)

Yeah.. i looked at the YSI5200A system... to remote monitor the St Vinnies job... but couldn't get the funding for it...

Thought the pricing wasn't too bad...

Also looked at the "Aquatronica Freshwater Aquarium Set - Professional".. with ethernet add-on... as a cheaper option...

Man, I was trying to type to early :)
It's actually a 5200a, but I also run a 5500 which does DO on multiple tanks from one control module(where you have to Daisy chain the 5200's together)

When are you going to start a facility of your own over there Rupe? Doooo iiiiiit

Most mature reef tank owners set this up as well. A bit overkill for aquaponics, but look into the Neptune aquatics apex controller. Many use this and it basically has everything you've mentioned. Not to mention it's a well tested product

Thanks guys I am a small operation now but I am looking to expand in a year or two so I want to build it right in the beginning. I would like to have some bells and whistles and know how to work them before I expand.no only that I am looking to collect as much data too.
