I must have picked up some bionic tilapia. I thought that water colder than 55F killed tilapia. It is 54F in my tank right now, no deaths, they are swimming around like it is nothing. Luckely last night looks like the coldest it will be for the rest of the year. I'm pretty sure the Salton Sea gets colder, so maybee they have adapted for it.

my basement tank is right around 57f, my nile tilapia and blue tilapia seem unaffected, maybe eating a little less, but i've been keeping the feed levels low anyways

Merry Christmas everyone! Also in honor of my Brooklyn, New York born great uncle who died in France fighting for Canada during WWII, a belated happy Hanukkah! Kwanza people have to wait till tomorrow.

My dad says Mozambique Tilapia will tolerate down to 50 degrees F (but will not put on weight at that temp). He has a fish farm in Texas. Too bad he's too far away to stock my system!

^ This has to be true cause I have mozibique tilapia and im pretty sure my system has got down to 55 degrees plenty of times

Which fish farm does he own?

Fish may well survive below certain published levels.. but as noted... usually wont eat/grow... and become stressed and often diseased...before death eventually occurs....

Oh, they all will die. I plan on that, hopefully it won't be before the planed weight though...

Not really AP related, but we did a Disneyland trip yesterday. Miss Maggi, who is only 4, rocked Space Moutain, she then asked if we could do Big Thunder Railroad, but it was closed for renovations. It was just the 3 of us, so we were able to move fast to get to the rides. Usually we go with Mrs. Maggi's parents. They move, ah how to put this, slower... Plus, last time they undermined all of my efforts to get Miss Maggi on Space Moutain. The flash on the rides camera was not working very well, and our photo was dark, so they gave it to us for free. Miss Maggi also wanted to go on Splash Moutain. Normally I pass on it, it is not my favorite ride as it is uncomfortable and I am not one for strait drops. However, I wanted my daughter to go on all the rides she wanted. So we went on. Then Mrs. Maggi realized why I never wanted to go on it. She too found it cold, wet, uncomfortable, and the exhibition part of the ride unintelligible. We can count that as the low point of the trip, and it was not so bad, so really the trip was quite good.

Pity you didn't take the chance to visit the Epcot centre... thta would pass as AP related...

Epcot is nowhere near Disneyland. If it was, we would probably have gone. I do see so many opportunities for Aquaponics at Disneyland though... I bet Walt would have been all over it, he loved this sort of stuff. The only caveat is that they add color to their water for dramatic effect, and to hide the rails and stuff under the water.
